Day Two

While it isn't my favorite way to work out, my primary activity the next month will be riding my bike on a trainer in the garage. The short daylight hours and the typically wet climate makes it a lot more difficult to safely hit the pavement so to speak. On the positive side, I will be able to focus on maintaining a consistant cadence which is something I always struggle with when I am on the road.

Yesterday, I spent 25 minutes on the bike. The first five to ten minutes are always the toughest. After that I seem to get a rhythm and the rest of the time flies by.

My wife went on a nice hour long walk with the kids. She put them both in the Chariot and off she went. The Chariot is a great multi-functional piece of equipment. We use it as a stroller/jogger as well as a bike carrier. They sell an additional attachment for nordic skiing, but we haven't been that brave, yet.

The Challenge

The company I work for is sponsoring a new fitness intiative and I thought it would be fun to write about the progress my wife and I make. The rewards are not bad either. First and foremost, my wife and I will be a bit healthier and better role models for our children. Second, there is the potential to reduce our health care insurance premiums by thirty percent. In this day and age, that is not a small amount.

I am hoping to post on a daily basis what my wife and I did the previous day to be active. Whether it was a ten minute walk or a hour run.

Yesterday, I went for a thirty minute run and my wife walked on the treadmill at the gym for forty-five minutes. I know I am a little sore since it has been close to two weeks since I have done any running at all.
